About VCAW

Annette Roberts, Chief Executive Officer, Voluntary and Community Action Wirral

The culmination of almost two years of hard work has finally arrived with the formal launch of Voluntary & Community Action Wirral taking place on April 9th 2008.

As we go to press the final preparations for the formal launch of Voluntary & Community Action Wirral (VCAW) are underway. Almost two years of work for the staff, volunteers and trustees of the CVS in Bebington, Heswall, Wallasey and West Kirby have led to the creation of the new organisation.

The coming together of the four, well-established organisations ensures that VCAW has more power to represent, support and develop the third sector in Wirral. The strong, local presence that has been developed by each CVS in their local community will also be maintained under VCAW, to ensure that the views of local communities are heard and well represented. The board of trustees and the Chief Executive have made the commitment to ensure that this local presence is not lost and that VCAW will not be brought together in one, centralised office.

The changes that have been undertaken in creating VCAW have inspired a lot of interest from local communities, third sector organisations and from the Local Authority, PCT and Social Services. The support that has been shown by all of these groups will ensure that the new organisation will continue to use the existing skills and talents of staff and volunteers to be a strong, well informed and modern third sector infrastructure organisation.

Voluntary & Community Action Wirral will continue to offer support and advice to the third sector in Wirral and the direct services offered in our local communities will continue to be delivered. The new, more efficient organisation will be better placed to win new funding with its Wirralwide remit and this will lead to the creation of new services and exciting opportunities for local people.

If your would like more information about the new organisation, or you would like to know how the changes will benefit you then you can pop into your local branch and speak to any member of staff. Alternatively, you can give your local office a call on the numbers
